Better health through sport
Certified in 2020 by the Ministry of Solidarity and Health and the Ministry of Sports, the Maison Sport-Santé of Yonne facilitates the access of the department’s inhabitants to physical activities suitable for health or well-being purposes.
Created as part of a Sport/Health national strategy 2019-2024, the “Maisons Sport-Santé” were designed to enable physical activity adapted to people who suffer from long-term illnesses, chronic diseases… or who are far from sport practice, jointly supervised by health and sports professionals. In Yonne, the structure is led by the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee of Yonne (CDOS 89): ” We were certified in early 2020, but we have been proposing health-sport for about 20 years, says its president Patrice Hennequin. This recognition allows us to federate, organize and coordinate all health-sport in Yonne, and to offer a better readability to practitioners, prescribers and the sports world itself.”
Courses and networking on the territory
The choice was made of a one-stop shop with antennas at the inter-municipal level: We intended the Maison Sport-Santé as a vector of territorial development, continues the president of CDOS 89. That’s why we duplicate our actions in the fourteen public intercommunal cooperation institutions (EPCI) (1) of the department.”
The Maison Sport-Santé de l’Yonne has been working with communities and sports associations to develop new facilities in their areas. It helps to set up courses and to make contact with sports educators. It also lists the existing measures to guide people to the course that fits the best their needs or expectations, closer to their home. CDOS 89 carries itself two programs at the departmental level aimed at people over 18: the Sports Support Course for Health (PASS) on medical prescription, and Activity’santé for carers and helpers, sedentary people, precarious people…
The Maison Sport-Santé de l’Yonne also allows to sustain jobs by providing additional hours of work to sports educators who work in clubs in the evening and on week-ends.
